About the Freeze

Update, April 2021: We haven’t played since March 2020, but we are optimistic that we will be able to start our 2021-22 season in early October. Our official decision will be made around August. Sign up to be notified of our future plans.

The Philadelphia Freeze Women’s Ice Hockey club was founded in 1974. Currently there are three teams with our home ice at the University of Pennsylvania Class of 1923 rink in University City, Philadelphia.

The three Philadelphia Freeze teams play in the United Women’s Hockey League. The league has about 25 women’s clubs, all within a two hour radius of Philadelphia.

With three teams, there is a skill level available for most players, from novice to experienced. Age ranges on the teams are from 18 to 50+. The club is player-run and coaches are all volunteers. The regular hockey season is from October through March with approximately twenty regular practices/scrimmages at the Class of 1923 Rink in University City. The dates are set in September for the full season. During the off-season players and/or entire teams go to tournaments or play in pick up games.

We offer part-time and full-time player slots, as well as a practice/scrimmage only package.
